Blog #1: The Who pt. 1
MARCH 23, 2026
over the last few days i have started listening to "The Who". i think they're grand. absolutely terriffic. i've listened to most of 'their classic' albums and they're all great i think. My Generation is a pretty cool little debut record. has a couple good songs. my favourite tracks are: the title track, The Kids Are Alright, Please Please Please, A Legal matter, La-La-Lies. i'm not a huge fan of their second LP, A Quick One, though. kinda. mid. the only song i enjoyed is Boris the Spider. the growled vocals are pretty revolutionary. but "The Who Sell Out" is kind of really peak. it's an early example of a concept album. this one's supposed to sound like a pirate radio station with ads and everything. really cool. and the music itself is peak psychedelia. some of the songs kind of remind me of Ween. but that might be because I only know like 10 artists. my favourite tracks were: Armenia City In The Sky, Heinz Baked Beans, Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand, Tattoo, and I Can See For Miles. their fourth album Tommy is a bloody masterpiece. this is the album that inspired Pink Floyd's The Wall, which is like, one of the greatest albums of all time. though this story is much stranger. it's about an abused disabled kid becoming pinball Jesus, for those who are unnaware. it's still pretty cool though. my favourite tracks were: 1921, Christmas, Cousin Kevin, Pinball Wizard, Go To The Mirror!, I'm Free, and We're Not Gonna Take It (not to be confused with the Twisted Sister song). Who's Next might just be their masterpiece though. the opening and closing tracks are of course two of the most iconic rock tracks ever made. source: me. behind blue eyes is also really beautiful. the rest of the songs are all good. not necessarily peak, but they're all enjoyable and fun. i listened to Quadrophenia once but i think a relisten might be necessary. it's another rock opera. the story was much more mature than Tommy, and also slightly self-referential. pretty cool. the only remaining albums by them i want to listen to are "The Who By Numbers" and "Who Are You". i don't know what the fans think of these albums but i hope they're good! that's it really. i'll also write about movies i watch and books i read in this blog. so uh. that will be fun.
